About
Since 1930, van Zelm has given back to the world in which we work and live – through sustainable business practices, charitable contributions, and community involvement. From the firm’s earliest days, we have been dedicated to the importance of investing in the future – the future of our employees, our projects, our community, and the world we share.
van Zelm designs mechanical and electrical building systems that improve individual quality of life in balance with the environment. Our commitment to sustainability is longstanding and goes beyond designing green buildings for our clients.
Our firm was founded by Henri B. van Zelm. Mr. van Zelm attended Dartmouth College, graduating from the class of 1918 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He later attended the Pratt Institute of Brooklyn, N.Y. where he earned a Certificate of Industrial Mechanical Engineering. After working for a number of other engineering companies, Henri established his own firm in 1930, from which our existing firm grew. Mr. van Zelm retired in 1973. He was honored as “Engineer of the Year” in 1974 by the Connecticut Society of Professional Engineers.
